Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) has appointed a Ghanaian, Josephine Anan-Ankomah, as Ecobank Kenya's Managing Director.

She was also appointed ETI's Regional Executive for Central, Eastern, and Southern African (CESA).

The Central Bank of Kenya has already received her appointment.

Ankomah departs her position as Ecobank Group Executive, Commercial Banking, after 30 years in various positions.

She succeeds Cheikh Travaly, who, in accordance with Ecobank Group policy, retired at the end of 2022 after reaching the statutory retirement age of 60 years.

Her primary responsibilities will include expanding the bank's clientele in Kenya and the larger CESA region, which includes 18 of the bank's 33 affiliates and one representative office.

Ecobank Kenya Board of Directors Chairman Martin Mbogo expressed confidence in appointing Josephine as the Managing Director, saying she will elevate the firm to higher heights.

"We are confident that Josephine is the right person for the role and has what it takes to further boost the Ecobank brand in Kenya and the CESA region to even greater heights", Mbogo said.

Anan-Ankomah holds an MBA in Finance and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Sociology from the University of Ghana, besides being a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

On her part, Ankomah expressed her commitment to working with fellow Ecobankers to actualize the firm's vision.

"I look forward to working with the Board, management and fellow Ecobankers to grow our business in Kenya and leverage the vast opportunities within the region to actualise Ecobank's broader vision of fostering financial and economic integration", Ankomah said.

Ankomah's career began in 1992 when she was appointed the Treasury Officer.

She has held other senior positions within the bank, such as Managing Director for Ecobank Gambia, Regional Treasurer (Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and The Gambia), and Chief Operating Officer (Ecobank West African Monetary Zone/East & Southern Africa), among others.
