Kipchumba Murkomen, the Transport Cabinet Secretary, is blaming former President Uhuru Kenyatta's regime for the slow implementation of the Kenya Kwanza government's infrastructure development agenda.

During a meeting with Nakuru County Leaders on Thursday, the Transport Cabinet Secretary said that the massive pending bills accumulated over the last two years have resulted in stalled projects throughout the country.

"The implementation of Kenya Kwanza's infrastructure development agenda has been hampered by the huge pending bills that have accumulated over the last two years, resulting in stalled road projects across the country," murkomen

At the same time, Murkomen stated that the government is planning to address all of the issues that have slowed the completion of infrastructure investments.

"I further expressed the Government is committed to completing the expansion of the Lanet airstrip and the construction of a civilian terminal at the airstrip to facilitate faster movement of people and transportation of horticultural produce to destination markets," said Murkomen.

The Ksh.3 billion Lanet airstrip project, located at the 81 Tank Battalion Barracks in Nakuru, was supposed to be completed two years after it began and be ready for use by mid-2022, as stated previously by the previous Road and Transport boss during Nakuru City status conferment.

The airstrip was intended to promote tourism and make transporting agricultural produce from the county to international markets easier.

"Works on the Lanet Airport, which include extending the current runway from 1.1km to 1.7km, will be completed by June next year," said former CS Macharia.

In the last few days, the former regime has been accused of squandering money from the treasury after the budget controller said that she was forced to transfer over 15 billion Kenyan shillings just days before the general elections.
