Jambojet has announced its participation in this year’s Skyteam sustainable flight challenge involving a short-haul return flight between Nairobi and Mombasa on May 26th, 2023.

The Sustainable Flight Challenge (TSFC) aims to help global airlines accelerate their sustainability journey.
The low-cost airline said it is working closely with partners to develop sustainable solutions for the flight and adopt them across its operations.

Jambojet Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO)Karanja Ndegwa said the airline always looks at innovative ways to optimise their operations for business, environment and community sustainability.

“TSFC is a great opportunity for us to collaborate and learn from global airlines through knowledge sharing and continuous improvement,” Ndegwa said.

Last year’s inaugural Sustainable Flight Challenge brought together 19 airlines and operated 22 flights, leading to a 4.4 per cent total CO2 reduction, improving operations by 15 per cent through various initiatives.

This year, the Challenge features 22 airlines looking to execute the most sustainable flight possible on 72 return flights.

Jambojet will use their De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft for the flight, which is efficient, has low fuel consumption, and emits low CO2 emissions per passenger.

They will operate flight JM8604/5 on May 26 from Nairobi to Mombasa, with initiatives to reduce CO2 emissions, promote a circular economy, sustainable food production, and carbon offsetting.
