The Kenyan passport has been ranked the seventh most powerful on the African continent and 67th globally after its ranking improved from position eight in January 2023.
This is according to the Henley Passport Index Report released on Tuesday.
The report further shows that Kenyan passport holders can travel to 76 countries without a visa or visa on arrival.
Among the 73 countries the Kenyan passport could enter, the local passport rose to three positions.
After the government of Kenya agreed to remove visa requirements for travel with the governments of South Africa and Eritrea, the value of the Kenyan passport increased.
This situation will improve after Senegal lets Kenyans enter the nation without a visa.
The Mauritius passport is the most useful on the continent, allowing holders to travel to 148 nations without a visa. The country is rated 29th overall.
At position 51, South Africa is behind the island in the Indian Ocean, Namibia (61), Lesotho (79), and Eswatini (77).
The strongest passport globally is Singapore, ranked first, ahead of countries like Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, Finland, France, and Japan.
For instance, Singaporeans do not need a visa to enter 192 countries worldwide.
The passport of Afghanistan comes in last, after those of Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia, among others.
