A police officer has been arrested after he shot and injured a night guard during an altercation that saw an angry mob beat him up in Kisumu County.

The officer, who works as a driver for the Kisumu County Commissioner, is currently being treated at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) while being held under police custody.

Confirming the incident, Kisumu Central Sub County Police Commander Peter Mulai said the night guard was also admitted to the same hospital.

Mulai says investigations are underway, and appropriate action will be taken against the officer once he is released.

According to eyewitnesses, the drunk officer engaged night guards near the K City business center in a verbal exchange before drawing his pistol and shooting one of them.

According to JOOTRH records, the night guard was shot in the buttocks and was transported to the operating room to have the bullet removed.
