Kithure Kindiki, the Interior Cabinet Secretary, has replaced two police commanders from Meru to reduce livestock rustling along the Meru-Isiolo border.

Kindiki removed the two police officers to simplify investigations and ensure the efficiency of local security operations.

"The Officer Command Police Division (OCPD) for Igembe North Sub-County, as well as the Officer-in-Charge of the General Service Unit (GSU)command in the area, have been removed," the CS stated.

Kindiki stated in a statement that the modifications would be applied immediately.

This comes after he hosted a security Baraza at Ndoleli Chief's Camp with villagers from Igembe North Constituency to gather recommendations on the area's safety.

Kindiki stated that two more police posts would be erected along the Meru-Isiolo border to increase security.

It is in response to locals' requests for a police car and the conversion of one of the police posts into a police station.

He stated that the government is presently reviewing their plea.

According to the CS, the ministry has increased intelligence-led security surveillance in the area.

"To that end, the county and subcounty Security and Intelligence teams have increased their surveillance to ensure that cattle rustling activities do not reoccur in the area," he stated.

Furthermore, the CS stated that the logistics for building an Anti-Stock Theft Police Unit (ASTU) facility at Loloro had been completed.

He said the camp will open on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

Kindiki also provided an update on the investigations into the violent killing of George Kaliunga, the immediate former local MCA.

He stated that the cops had made progress.

"The security and intelligence teams are closing in on some suspects who, once apprehended, will be charged with murder and other related offenses," Kindiki added.
