Las Vegas police arrested a man on suspicion of murder in the killing of hip-hop icon Tupac Shakur, who was assassinated in 1996.

According to the Associated Press, Duane "Keffe D" Davis was detained early Friday morning, though the particular charge or charges were not immediately clear. An indictment was expected later that day.

Reuters could not reach Davis or his legal representatives to confirm the allegation.

Shakur was shot in a drive-by shooting nearly three decades ago and died six days later in a hospital at the age of 25.

According to the Associated Press, Davis has admitted in interviews and in his 2019 tell-all memoir, "Compton Street Legend," that he was in the Cadillac from which the bullets burst during the shooting.

Shakur was a Grammy-nominated rapper, activist, and actor who sold over 75 million records worldwide.
