This significant breakthrough followed the questioning of two young men who were earlier taken into custody by Nyeri detectives. They were apprehended while attempting to snatch mobile phones from shoppers in Gatitu, Nyeri.
The apprehension of John Kariuki and James Thuita occurred on November 1, 2023. Subsequently, detectives moved to Gatitu shopping center, where they ambushed their accomplice, David Thinwa Ngatia, who operated a mobile phone repair shop. It was during this operation that the recoveries were made.

In addition to the recovered mobile phones, a search of his business premises yielded two TV sets, three laptops, two cameras, 47 mobile subscriber SIM cards, and an HP printer, among other items. All of these items have been confiscated and preserved as evidence.
