Police have launched an investigation into an incident where a 16-year-old girl allegedly killed her 9-year-old niece using a spear at Nyandiwa village in Siaya County.
Nyandiwa Sub-location Assistant Chief Joseph Otieno Aloo reported a murder incident at Nyandiwa village to Siaya Police Station.
Confirming the incident, Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo, said officers from Siaya Police Station rushed to the scene and established that the suspect, who is mentally ill was playing within their homestead with other young children.
He claimed that just before the defendant entered her father's home and took a spear that she threw at them, they had an abrupt argument that ended with the nine-year-old being fatally struck in the head by the spear.
Mr. Kimaiyo confirmed the event and stated that although investigations were ongoing, the body was sent to Siaya County Referral Hospital after being processed and documented at the site.

The suspect was arrested and is assisting police with investigations. The murder weapon was also recovered and kept as an exhibit.
