Police officers are looking for a 17-year-old teenager suspected of murdering his 12-year-old cousin before fleeing the scene in Mwea, Kirinyaga County.
The suspect, a Form Three student, allegedly killed his Grade Seven relative under mysterious circumstances after the two were left alone in their family home.
Wairimu and her husband raced home, taking their daughter to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

"I left my daughter (victim) doing homework with her cousin and I went to the market with my maid and husband. After finishing our errands, my husband and I stayed back while the maid headed home," Pauline Wairimu, the deceased's mother and the suspect's aunt.
"I did not think that my sister's child would kill my daughter," Wairimu added.
Kirinyaga Police Commander Andrew Naibei confirmed the incident, saying that the victim's body had been taken to Kibugi Funeral Home for post-mortem.
"She had visible injuries on her body. We are searching for the suspect, and we will bring him in," said Naibei.
