A court at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has sentenced two foreign nationals to pay a fine of Ksh. 30 million each or serve a 12-month prison term for drug trafficking offenses.
The suspects were apprehended by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Transnational Organised Crimes Unit during a sting operation in the Nyamakima area on March 13, 2024.
After being questioned, the suspects led detectives to their homes in Umoja and Sunton, where authorities seized 39.04 grams of heroin and 25.71 grams of cannabis.

They were charged with violating the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, which imposes a minimum fine of Ksh. 10 million for anyone caught with narcotics weighing 50 mg or less.
The duo pleaded guilty and were subsequently sentenced by the court. In addition to the fines and imprisonment, the court ordered the suspects to be deported to their home country after serving their sentences or paying the penalties.
The court also mandated the destruction of the seized narcotics.
