Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended three individuals linked to robberies and muggings in Mombasa.
The suspects, identified as Shaban Munga Ali (26), Sande Kalama Kitsao (24), and Shebani Charo Kalume (34), are believed to be part of the infamous 'Panga Gang,' known for terrorizing residents in the Kiembeni and Kadzandani areas.
The arrests followed a day-long intelligence-driven operation targeting criminal elements in the coastal town. According to the DCI, the gang is notorious for carrying out violent attacks, armed with crude weapons such as daggers and machetes. They have been linked to robberies targeting businesses and muggings of unsuspecting pedestrians.
Munga and Kalama were apprehended at the Mwatamba 2 stage in Kiembeni, while Kalume was captured in Kadzandani, where he was found in possession of a knife and two face masks.
Authorities have confirmed that the suspects will face charges as the crackdown on the gang and their associates continues.
