Police officials in Kawethei, Kangundo, Machakos County, are probing the death of Charles Kituku Muthusi, an AIC pastor from Mukunike.
The preacher's body was discovered in a corn patch just 50 meters from his home early Tuesday morning.
The deceased had suffered head trauma and had had its eyes gouged out.
Officers from the Kawethei police station responded to the area and retrieved several pieces of rock that looked to have been used to kill the preacher.
In addition, investigators uncovered a screwdriver near the crime site that was considered part of the murder weapon.

Reverend Peter Muthusi, his brother, expressed outrage at the cold-hearted murder, claiming their other brother had met the same death in Nairobi not long before.
Meanwhile, the body was sent to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital pending further investigation.
In other news, On Monday, a 17-year-old girl drowned while collecting firewood in the River Romolo at Gesiora hamlet in Suna West, Migori County.
According to Kuria West sub-county police commander Cleti Kimaiyo, the deceased was climbing a tree while fetching firewood when she fell into the river and drowned. He claimed that other children washing clothes by the river attempted to save her but could not.
According to Kimaiyo, the deceased's parents indicated he had epilepsy. The body was taken to the Akidiva Hospital mortuary for an autopsy, and burial plans are underway.
