Police in Nairobi have detained a 29-year-old former Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer suspected of being a member of a renowned gang responsible for several robberies in the Embakasi and Kayole neighbourhoods.
Ronald Juma Anyanyi, reportedly discharged from the military on September 22, 2022, was apprehended on Thursday by police personnel conducting undercover operations in the Pipeline region.
According to authorities, Juma and his suspected accomplice, who escaped arrest, were travelling on a motorcycle with the number plates hidden, which drew the cops' notice.

According to the police report, officers moved quickly and confronted the couple. One of them leapt from the motorcycle and managed to flee. They were able to apprehend the defendant, Ronald Juma Anyanyi, 29, who was carrying a pistol and 7.62mm live ammo concealed in nylon,
The suspect was led to his home in Utawala, where police found additional ammo, handcuffs, and a military outfit.
"Upon interrogation, he confessed to being an ex-KDF officer, and upon further interrogation, he took the officers to his residence in Utawala, where they recovered another six (6) rounds of 7.62mm, twenty-six (26) rounds of 9mm, a HK 21 bipod stand, a pair of handcuffs, military fatigue, KDF ID, and a military uniform."
A 20-year-old lady named Stephanie Mwende was also discovered in the residence. She is the girlfriend of Boniface Aburiri Wakhusama, who is accused of jumping from the motorcycle.
The two are being held in police custody as investigations, and the hunt for their co-conspirators continue.
