A Mombasa Court has charged a 50-year-old woman in possession of a python skin worth Kes 100,000.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Mary Nzala Taura pleaded guilty to illegally possessing wildlife trophies, contrary to Section 95(d) of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act 2013.
Mombasa Court Senior Resident Magistrate David Odhiambo heard that the suspect committed the offense on September 4 at around 11:40, at Half London area in Mikindani within Changamwe Sub County within Mombasa County.
“Hon. Odhiambo further heard that the suspect concealed the python skin in a clear polythene bag contained in a blue eco bag without permission from the KWS Director General,” ODPP said.
To identify the exhibit, counsel Barbara Sombo informed the court that it will be sent for expert study.
