The Ministry of Environment has announced a list of selected places in the 47 counties where the National Tree Growing exercise will be held on Monday.

President William Ruto will kick off the tree-planting campaign in Makindu, Makueni County, at Kiu Wetland.

Environment CS Soipan Tuya said on Friday that Cabinet Secretaries will champion tree-growing activities at the county level, with each advocating tree-growing activities in at least two counties.

According to CS Tuya, there are 150 million plantable seedlings in Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) and Kenya Forest Services (KFS) nurseries around the country and other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of Government nurseries.

"Additionally, there are millions of seedlings in private nurseries, run by women and youth groups in Community Forest Associations and Community-Based Organisations across the country, available at a fee," said community organizer CS Tuya.

She invited Kenyans to take time off work on Monday to participate in the tree-planting exercise.

"I know being a public a holiday, many of us will take advantage of the break to attend to other private and social obligations, but for the sake of the wellbeing of our environment and for mother nature, and as a call to national duty, I urge all of us to honor the National Tree Growing Day," she said in a statement.
