Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced efforts to broker a truce between Meru leaders after the recent unsuccessful attempt to impeach Kawira Mwangaza.
Gachagua emphasized the necessity of collaboration among the Governor, Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), and Members of Parliament (MPs) for the Kenya Kwanza Administration's growth.
Gachagua spoke to a congregation at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Embu County on Sunday, emphasizing his commitment to promoting peace and development.

He acknowledged earlier attempts to resolve problems within Meru County and stated his commitment to have similar discussions with stakeholders to ensure unity.
“There have been issues in Meru County that were presided over by the Senate. I was previously at the forefront of holding talks and we were in agreement that brought peace in the county for one year. They then had disagreements and I let them be to see how things would turn out,” Gachagua stated.
Gachagua emphasized the need to sustain peace among county leaders, recalling his previous involvement in Kericho and Kiambu Counties.
"I sat them down and we are in agreement and there is peace," he said.
Looking ahead, Gachagua asked Embu County leadership to prioritize development in their engagements to prevent the necessity for external intervention.
This is a departure from his former position in October when he preferred to stay out of Meru County's political squabbles.
Mwangaza survived a second impeachment attempt after a Senate plenary on November 9, 2023, failed to uphold any of the seven allegations leveled against her by MCAs and unanimously voted to remove her from office.
The governor made a triumphant entry into Meru on November 10, where she apologized to those mistreated and asked for peace and togetherness among the Meru community and its leaders.
