Over seven people have been killed, and hundreds of others have been left homeless in Kwale County as severe rainfall continues to wreak havoc in the county.

Two Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officers were among those killed after they were washed away by flooding while crossing the inundated Ramisi River in the Lunga Lunga sub-county.

On Friday night, the two were heading from Lungalunga station to Mombasa when the incident occurred.

The car in which they were riding has been recovered, but their remains have not been found.

Two more people were swept away by flooding in Tiwi ward, with one body recovered and one still missing.

In Vanga, another victim was swept.

One person was also swept away by flooding in Kinango, and another was electrocuted while cutting a tree in the rain in Msambweni.

The rains have wreaked devastation across the area, affecting at least 681 homes and destroying over 1,000 acres of farmland.

In Diani, 108 homes were submerged in water, forcing the residents to spend the night outside in the cold.
