After Thursday night's heavy rains, at least eight people are thought to have perished in the Mukaa area of Makueni County due to flooding.
According to a witness who spoke with Citizen Digital, The eight reportedly tried to cross the Muuoni River, which was already flooded at around 10 p.m.
The river was overflowing with floodwaters, making it impossible for many more people to cross over to the other side and get to their homes.
Since then, a rescue team has been sent to the area, according to Evans Peter, the coordinator for the Kenya Red Cross in Makueni County.
