Najib Balala, a Tourism Cabinet Secretary in President Uhuru Kenyatta's Cabinet, has been arrested along with other former ministry officials.

Balala, Leah Gwiyo (Former PS, Tourism), Joseph Odero (Managing Partner, West Consult Engineers), and Flora Ngina (Former ICT Manager, Tourism Fund) were arrested on Friday by EACC detectives.

The four suspects were apprehended concerning procurement fraud and irregular payment of Ksh.8.5 billion in connection with the proposed Ronald Ngala Utalii College in Vipingo.


According to the commission, 12 more suspects in the investigation have yet to be apprehended.

"We direct the 12 to immediately report to EACC headquarters or the nearest EACC Regional Office," the statement said.

The suspects will be transferred to the Malindi anti-corruption court for further action, according to EACC spokesperson Eric Ngumbi.
