As reported by Geo News, law enforcement successfully neutralized an improvised explosive device (IED) discovered on a train traveling from Peshawar to the Cantonment Railway Station in the port city. The bomb disposal squad was alerted and promptly arrived at the station after receiving information about the threat on Saturday. Following established safety procedures, the squad safely defused the explosive using a controlled blast. Authorities disclosed that the IED was concealed beneath a seat in the Awan Express train.

According to senior officer Raja Umar Khattab of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), the sabotage attempt could have been carried out by a separatist group. The explosive was discovered in a black and red school bag, according to the bomb disposal unit.

Syed Asad Raza, Director General of Police (DIG) South, stated that the 5kg bomb contained 2 kg of explosives and was attached to a "time device," with a motorcycle battery used to detonate it.

The DIG stated that the train was near Sukkur-Rohri Junction at the time of the bombing, implying that the target could be in the north of Sindh. "The bomb did not explode at the time due to a malfunctioned wire inside it," the official said.

He stated that the police were notified about the bomb one hour after the train arrived at Cantt Station and that the report was made by railway personnel.

Raza mentioned that, currently, no case could be lodged, but assured that it would be officially registered at the Railway Police Cantt Station. DIG Raza further mentioned the acquisition of CCTV footage from multiple train stations spanning from Peshawar to Karachi. Additionally, he highlighted the ongoing investigation into the railway staff.
