Mike Sonko reacted to Conjestina Achieng's predicament a day after Carol Radul posted about her lifestyle in the village. "I have seen a post by my good friend Carol Radul on Conjee, which attracted both positive and negative reactions from the public. Others were criticising and accusing me of playing PR and vipindiree. I hereby wish to respond with facts as hereunder: Kenyans, I did my best to help Conjee, but her family watered down my efforts. Fortunately, my heart is bigger than myself."
The seasoned politician released a recorded phone conversation with his family, alleging that they undermined his efforts to assist Congestina. He further asserted that Congestina chose to return home because she was upset that he arranged for her to travel to Nairobi by bus while he himself took a flight.

Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has provided evidence to defend himself against accusations from Kenyans who claimed he used the case of renowned boxer Congestina Achieng as a mere PR stunt.
Mike Sonko admonished Congestina Achieng's family, accusing them of undermining his efforts to assist the boxer.
Media personality Carol Radull shared photos of herself with the athlete, expressing her frustration that the situation was beyond her control.
In response, Sonko leaked a phone conversation he had with Congestina's son, Charlton Otieno, as part of his rebuttal.
In the phone call, he confronted the young boxer and accused his family of diluting his efforts to support Congestina.
"I cannot be doing Congestina's work all the time, and the Kenyans I am helping are so many. You should also play your part as a family. When she goes home, you let her go back to smoking. It is expensive. This process is very expensive," he said.
Sonko got angry while narrating how now he has to start afresh in helping the boxer by taking her back to rehab.
"It is wasting my money and time, and it is not right. I did my best. The treatment is expensive, and paying doctors is also equally very expensive. This is embarrassing, and it looks like PR that I keep doing and abandoning," he said.
Last chance from Sonko
Nevertheless, the seasoned politician extended a final opportunity to the boxer and cautioned the family to fulfill their responsibilities, warning that he might withdraw his support if they fail to do so.
"You will be the ones to go to Siaya; look for her so that I can send people to come and get her," he said.
He also claimed that Congestina got pissed that she was asked to board a bus, yet Sonko used a flight to get to Nairobi.
How Sonko Eventually Gave Conjestina a Job
In July 2022, the seasoned politician came to the aid of the boxer and personally drove her to a hospital in Mombasa, where she underwent treatment. In June 2023, Sonko extended further support by offering her a job as a gym instructor at one of his business premises to keep her engaged post-hospitalization.
The philanthropist also took a noteworthy step by spending a day in the office with Congestina, allowing her to play the role of his bodyguard. This move received commendation from netizens for the positive transformation in her life. Kenyans were particularly impressed by the boxer's fashion statement and radiant appearance as she wore an all-white suit while carrying Sonko's briefcase.
