Residents in Narok County are on high alert due to the possibility of floods brought on by the continuous, intense rains in the upper regions of Narok North.

On Sunday, the Narok County Department of Disaster Management advised locals to be cautious and to stay informed about government pronouncements and local weather forecasts.

It has been suggested to residents in low-lying or flood-prone areas to think about temporarily relocating to higher ground to avoid potential hazards.

Residents have also been especially advised to proceed with extreme caution when crossing the bridges across the Kumikumi and Narok Rivers and using the bridges along the flood control tunnels.

"The rising water levels pose a serious threat, and attempting to cross these bridges if flooded may lead to serious risk," stated a portion of the advisory.

The county government has advised people to use the emergency line 0800722984 and has threatened to enact evacuation preparations if the situation worsens.

Since January 2024, there have been significant amounts of rainfall in many regions of the country.

According to the Kenya Meteorological Department, Nairobi and other highland areas east of the Rift Valley are expected to get scattered storms and significant rainfall this weekend.

Precipitation is also expected in the areas south of the Rift Valley, the southern coastal strip, and the southern lowlands.
