The woman who was brutally murdered and cut into pieces in a Roysambu Airbnb has finally been identified by the detectives as a 20-year-old woman from the Athi River.
According to the family, who identified their kin as Rita Waeni Muendo, they claim that the killer had asked for a Ksh 500000 ransom from the family or threatened to kill her. The family revealed that Rita left home to meet up with her cousin.
The family said that around 5 a.m. on Sunday, her father received a message from her phone demanding a ransom of Ksh. 500,000 within 24 hours for the release of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) student.

"With this message, the family reported the matter to the police and DCI, and investigations began,"
“Unfortunately, the family did not get further details about the ransom or an opportunity to explore this route. Additionally, some demands were made when she had already been murdered,” the family said.
"We believe she was lured by her killer, who also tried to extort money from her family, even after killing her," the victim's family said.
They described her as "an intelligent, smart girl beyond her age at the very start of her youth," recognized for her kindness, laughter, and "ability to light up any room she entered."
According to the police report, the body parts were discovered and placed in a trash collection site of Green House Apartment House Within Roysambu Along TRM Drive on Sunday morning.
CCTV footage near the scene where the body of a 20-year-old was found dismembered gave detectives a clue into who the main suspect in the brutal murder could be. The suspect was later arrested at the JKIA while attempting to flee the country and is currently being held at the Kasarani police station.
