In the Likuyani neighborhood of Kakamega, a 36-year-old man perished while collecting sand from a 50-foot well.

Preliminary reports indicate that during the incident on Wednesday, January 17, he might have passed away from oxygen deprivation.

Likuyani deputy commissioner Noeline Juma confirmed the tragic incident, and the Red Cross representative in Likuyani advised the locals to use caution before going near the hazardous wells.

Witnesses to the tragedy claim that on Tuesday, the deceased and a few of his friends tried to enter the well but had to turn back because of a shortage of oxygen.

The dead man and his friends then pledged, according to Francis Moiya, the healthy owner, to complete the exercise the following day.

Mr. Moiya claimed that before the tragedy, the deceased had disregarded his advice to proceed with caution.
