The Abagusii Council of Elders has demanded an instant cease-fire between South Mugirango Member of Parliament Sylvanus Osoro and Kisii Governor Simba Arati.

Elders, former political figures, and religious leaders gathered at a multisectoral meeting to mediate a truce between the warring leaders resolved to mediate between them and urged those causing chaos in the country to stop.

During the meeting, the security agencies were also urged to look into and prosecute the person responsible for the recent conflicts in the nation.

"Peace is a priceless commodity, and it takes two to tango. That's why we're making this passionate appeal to both Governor Simba Arati and Chief Whip Sylvanus Osoro, that they should cease any altercations in order to give us an opportunity to delve into the Pros and Cons of issues that may be affecting the stability of the region," said former Kisii Senator Prof. Sam Ongeri.

"We do this as a call from our own people and the society and Kenyans who are very uncomfortable with the situation that is going on in the county."

This is in response to Governor Arati's earlier declaration that he would not honor the truce meeting summoned by CS Machogu following the outbreak of violence at two events held by the county chief on January 6 and January 8, 2024.

"We can only talk about reconciliation if justice is served to those who were injured and everyone responsible for it is held to account. Osoro must be prosecuted."
