Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, the spouse of the deputy president, has accused the church's religious institutions of remaining silent as drug and alcohol misuse, alcoholism, and substance abuse harm young men.

At a meeting with clergy members in Karuri, Kiambaa, Kiambu County on Thursday, Pastor Dorcas stated that many religious leaders in the area are aware of those who deal in narcotics and other substances, but they never speak out against them.

“As the church we keep quiet when we see things going wrong in our country. Some even say they will not speak against the evils because the government will close their churches. But what kind of a church is that? A church which cannot speak the truth? Sin is sin and you must call it sin,” she said.

Pastor Dorcas called on those calling street families as ‘chokoraa’ to be referring to them as her child.

She spoke ahead of her launch of a medical camp targeting the street families at the Karuri Grounds.

Kiambaa DCC Geoffrey Taragon accused the county government of issuing licenses to bar owners to operate in areas of residences.
