A family in Ndia, Kirinyaga County, is mourning the death of two members, a young mother and her son, who perished in the recent embakasi gas explosion.
According to the family, their daughter Anne Nyaguthii, 25, and her one-year-old son Macharia were among those killed in the gas explosion.
Two young lives were abruptly cut short by the explosion, a fire that many say could have been avoided.

Virginia Wambugi, the victim's mother and grandmother, said the awful news had devastated the family.
According to her sister-in-law Catherine Nyawira, anne had reportedly called home moments before the explosion and had promised to clear hospital bills for her sister.
"She called me on the phone and even promised to clear the medical bill for her sister, who is currently admitted at the Karatina hospital," Nyawira claimed.
"I had no idea that it would be the last time I hear from her." she added.
The family characterized the deceased as a cheerful soul who enjoyed lending a helpful hand.
