Auctioneers have obtained a court order to take the property of Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP), Peter Salasya to settle a Kes 500,000 debt and interests owed to businessman Robert Lutta.

This is after the legislator failed to pay the debt despite the court ordering him to pay the businessman the money he had lent him.

In a ruling on November 27, 2023, Kakamega Magistrate Gladys Kiama ordered Salasya to pay the Kes 500,000, interests accrued, and the cost of the case.

Armok Auctioneers has now been entrusted with auctioning the MP's property on behalf of the plaintiff, Robert Lutta.

The court ordered the MP to pay the amount within a month, but he has not done so.

On October 23, 2023, the plaintiff filed a lawsuit through attorney Edwin Wafula, alleging that he loaned the MP the money via KCB bank but has refused to repay it.

He even provided documentation from the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Mumias branch to demonstrate in court that he transferred the funds to Salasya's bank account.

Salasya, however, denied taking a loan from the businessman and asserted that he gave Lutta a Ksh. 1 million loan via Mr. Bernard Kemba, his political strategist.

Magistrate Kiama rejected Salasya's claim for lack of supporting proof.

The MP would face accusations of threatening to kill the magistrate following the decision.

Following the ruling, Salasya is said to have confronted Magistrate Kiama outside the courtroom and threatened to kill her.

“At around 1230 hours while at Kakamega Law Courts, having delivered a judgement in a small claim matter vide case no. SSC E541/2023 against Hon. Peter Salasya, MP for Mumias East Constituency where he had been sued for failing to refund the money loaned to him by the claimant. He confronted her outside the courtroom and threatened to kill her and then took off,” read a report filed at the Kakamega Police Station.
