It is a relief to over 200 traders at Nyamlori market after the Court of Appeal in Kisumu ordered a stop to their eviction from the market by the City Management planned for the 16th of this month.
Justices Hannah Okwengu, H.A Omondi and Joel Ngugi ordered the traders to stay put pending a hearing and determination of the appeal filed by their lawyer Joshua Nyamori.
Further, the court has ordered both parties, including the traders and the city management, to undertake a meeting to find an amicable settlement of the dispute.
Last evening, the judges in the virtual ruling ordered that if no agreement is reached after 90 days, a hearing date will be set.
Nyamlori traders and the city management, led by Abala Wanga, have been fighting over the notice to have the traders leave the market area.
