The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched investigations into bribery allegations against a Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officer.
EACC says the probe is after receiving a March 14, 2023 report claiming that a waiver processing officer at KRA demanded a benefit of Kes 50,000 to write off an erroneous value-added tax penalty of Kes 410,000.
Investigations revealed that the officer requested and received Kes 40,000 as a financial benefit.
Further, EACC stated that on November 9, 2023, a report was compiled and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) with recommendations to charge the officer with three counts of receiving a bribe, contrary to Section 6(1)(a) as read with Section 18 of the Bribery Act No. 47 of 2016.
However, on December 28, 2023, the DPP returned the inquiry file with recommendations for further investigations.
