The Ministry of Interior made public on Thursday a list of regional businesses approved to produce alcoholic beverages in compliance with Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) guidelines. 

 This comes in the wake of new rules implemented by the government to combat illicit breweries and drug dealers. 

 On Wednesday, Kithure Kindiki, the Interior Cabinet Secretary, declared that all second-generation alcohol producers' licenses would be suspended. 


He declared that drug and alcohol abuse posed a threat to national security and that manufacturers would have to reapply within three weeks, during which time all currently valid licenses would undergo a new screening process.
