Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary(CS) Eliud Owalo has condoled with the family, friends, Nation Media Group (NMG) colleagues, and the entire media fraternity following the sudden death of Journalist Rita Tinina.
In his message, on the X platform, Owalo said he learned of the passing on of one of Kenya’s outstanding journalists, the late Tinina, with deep sorrow.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Ms Tinina’s family, friends, NMG colleagues and the entire media fraternity during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all,” he tweeted.
The CS said Tinina’s contributions to journalism were invaluable. She will be remembered for her dedication to truth, integrity, and the pursuit of excellence in reporting.
“During this time of mourning, may Ms Tinina’s loved ones find comfort in the knowledge that she made a significant and meaningful contribution to the field of journalism,” said Owalo.

The late Tinina passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at her house in Kileleshwa Estate.
Her colleagues said she was set to be at work but she did not show up and could not be reached on the phone.
A police report filed at the Kileleshwa Police Station said Tinina's sister found the 46-year-old journalist unconscious in her bedroom.
"On arrival at the scene the sister called in the assistance of emergency medical services whereby the paramedics confirmed that the body was already lifeless," police said.
Tinina was epileptic and had a five-day-old severe fever, police said her sister reported.
A family spokesperson requested their privacy as they came to terms with the journalist’s sudden death.
