To end the countrywide doctors' strike, the Ministry of Health and the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists' Union (KMPDU) will speak with one another on Monday.

KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah said in a statement to newsrooms that the meeting will allow the parties to have a productive conversation and attempt to resolve the issues mentioned in the Union's strike notice.

The union advised doctors to refrain from working until the discussions were fruitful.

"We want to emphasize that our strike continues until our demands are met. We understand the challenges and sacrifices each of you is making, and we want to assure you that your efforts are not in vain. Your unwavering commitment to our cause is what strengthens our position at the negotiating table," KMPDU stated.

The union called the strike due to several issues, including the MoH's noncompliance with their 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and failure to post medical interns.

Despite an order from Employment and Labour Relations Court Judge Byram Ongaya last week suspending the doctors' strike to allow for negotiations, the doctors have continued their strike.

On March 14, 2024, a Thursday, the strike got underway.
