Prof. Kithure Kindiki, the interior cabinet secretary, now demands that individuals who heckle at political events be taken into custody and prosecuted.

While on a tour of Kericho County, Kindiki issued a statement ordering security services to act quickly to quell disturbances during political gatherings.

"The security team is also tasked to rein in on incidents of disorderly conduct in political meetings, conclude investigations and apprehend the organisers, financiers and perpetrators of hooliganism in the County, regardless of their political or social standing," Kindiki said.

This spoke to the recent heckling during President William Ruto's visit to Kericho County on development-related matters.

As a result of some residents heckling Kericho Governor Eric Mutai during the visit, Ruto urged peace and political tolerance.

On election day in 2027, the president urged the populace to use their right to vote and remove those who failed to live up to their promises.

CS Kindiki met with the Kericho County Security and Intelligence Committee, chaired by County Commissioner Gabriel Kitiyo, to discuss taming the recent skirmishes in the community. The meeting also covered the national campaign against the production, distribution, sale, and use of illicit liquor, narcotic drugs, and psychotropic substances.

DP Rigathi Gachagua, who spoke on Sunday in Kapsabet, also denounced heckling at political gatherings.

Gachagua asked the leaders of the Rift Valley to end their constant bickering and concentrate on helping the people by reading them the Riot Act.

He called it deplorable and humiliating for leaders to use President Ruto as a prop while openly vying for dominance in the area before the head of state.
