Mama Rachel Ruto, the First Lady, attended the funeral on Sunday of 11 students from Kenyatta University's Department of Health Management and Informatics who lost their lives in a car accident in Maungu, Taita Taveta County, along with family members, members of the fraternity, and stakeholders in the education sector.

Mama Rachel Ruto praised the 11 students as future leaders the country lost, people who would have had an impact in a variety of fields and given pride and happiness to their families and communities.

She also asked everyone in the country to continue praying for the complete recovery of the 47 students who were hurt and are undergoing treatment.

To ensure the safety of all road users, the First Lady also urged all drivers to exercise extra caution and be more alert and courteous at all times.

When a truck struck the 11 students' bus in Maungu, Taita Taveta County, they all perished.

Voi Sub-county Police Commander Ibrahim Daffala confirmed the incident: "The accident occurred at a time when it was heavily raining." The truck attempted to pull off the road to prevent a head-on collision that may have caused the accident.
