The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) arrested excess passengers aboard public service vehicles on Sunday in Thika, Kiambu County.

Speaking on X, NTSA stated that motorists should avoid boarding overloaded vehicles to prevent inconveniences.

This comes after NTSA impounded a 14-seater matatu carrying 31 students from Tharaka Nithi County on Saturday.

The vehicle driver managed to escape arrest, leaving the students in the vehicle.

Further, NTSA arrested several pedestrians who failed to use the designated walkways and footbridges while crossing roads in Nairobi on Tuesday.

The government has been trying to reduce the increasing number of road accidents in Kenya.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced new measures to curb the surge in road accidents, including a directive for returning NTSA officers to the roads on March 19.
