General Francis Omondi Ogolla, Kenya's Chief of Defense Forces (PDF), will be buried today at his Mor Village, Siaya County residence.

Ogolla was the first CDF leader to pass away while in office since the country's independence. On Thursday, April 18, 2024, a jet crashed in Sindar Area, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Nine other officers who were accompanying the general on an official tour of a bandit-infested part of the North Rift region also perished in the crash.

President William Ruto named Ogolla Kenya's military chief on April 28, 2023, in compliance with the "Tonje Rules," a rotating system that controls the choice of the CDF.

The Military burial rites are expected to be held at a private ceremony in General Ogolla’s home.

Only designated mourners will be allowed in the home where the General will receive a 19 -Gun Salute before his body is laid to rest.

Army officials from a number of African nations are also in attendance.

Ogolla's body is expected to arrive at the Obama K’Ogello Primary School in Ngi’ya Village, where a funeral ceremony will be held.

A military plane carrying the body of the CDF landed at the Kisumu International Airport at 8.00 am.
