Peter Mulwa, the deceased's grandpa, stated that Mulwa had contacted him days before the explosion, asking him to spare one goat for him. He intended to take it to his in-laws today, May 1, to ask for their daughter's hand in marriage.

Angela Ndanu, the dead aunt, begged the government to intercede and assist the family with funeral arrangements.

She praised the government, through Cabinet Secretary Peninah Malonza's office, for assisting the families in transporting their loved one's remains from Elwak to Nairobi.

Sammy Peter, who had lived in Elwak for three months, was also killed in the incident.
