Traffic at Ahero Bridge on the Kisumu-Nairobi route resumed after the Nyando River's flooding subsided.

The area has been impassable after the river breached its banks, generating severe flooding.

Traffic police officials are stationed at both ends of the bridge, and cars may now leisurely enter and exit Kisumu.

Previously, police urged vehicles to take the Miwani-Chemelil-Awasi route and join the Nairobi highway. However, traffic is high along the Ahero Kisumu road as vehicles delayed in jam make their way into Kisumu.

According to Chief Jacob Ongudi, efforts are underway to rescue families marooned in flood waters in most sections of Nyando due to the overflow.

Speaking to Ramogi FM, Ongudi urged individuals living along the river to relocate to higher land, particularly schools and the Ahero Multipurpose Hall.

Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o has said that around 600 people have been affected in their homes and businesses as Ahero town has been swamped.

He has stated that measures to evacuate the affected people are underway, with teams from the county administration and the Kenya Red Cross already at work.

Nyong'o has also invited well-wishers willing to contribute food and clothes to visit Kisumu's Jaramogi Oginga Odinga sports complex.
