A special section has been formed inside the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to monitor threats against bloggers on social media.
This was disclosed by Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki, who appeared before the Senate on Wednesday to answer questions.
Kindiki further informed the plenary that detectives are now investigating many events in 19 counties, "with a sharp focus on gangs perpetuating online attacks and offline violence against Kenyans expressing divergent opinions through various digital platforms."
He noted that numerous people have already been charged in connection with the violent death of Meru-based blogger Daniel Muthiani Bernard, also known as Sniper.
Kindiki swore that all offenders will be held accountable.
