Nyeri Governor Edward Mutahi Kahiga says they will not allow deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to be mistreated amid rumours of trouble within the kenya kwanza coalition.
On Sunday, Kahiga stated that the people of Mount Kenya will not tolerate the mistreatment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking at a church function in Kieni, Gachagua stated that President William Ruto was abused when he was deputized by previous President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kahiga stated that the people of Mt. Kenya supported Ruto after experiencing his trials as deputy president.
"I want to say here in front of everyone, we will not allow our son (Gachagua) to go through what Ruto went through in the hands of Uhuru Kenyatta. We will not allow our son to be mistreated. We will not," Mutahi said amid cheers from the congregation.
He further stated that Gachagua was not appointed to his present post but elected like any other leader and should be recognized.
"Disrespect to Gachagua is disrespect to the mountain, and vice versa. Those trying to bring bad blood between the president and his deputy, we are warning you," a fiery Mutahi added.
Mutahi addressed Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, who had made statements in the same meeting a few minutes previously, stating there is no need for lying and that the DP should be respected.
Cherargei had stated that everything was well despite reports of a split within the coalition. Mutahi's thoughts come after a suspected rift between Gachagua and Ruto.
