Nairobi County has announced that the ban on deep excavation activities within the city, instituted on April 29, has been lifted.

Governor Johnson Sakaja gave the directive as a precautionary measure after heavy rains caused hazardous conditions at several construction sites.

At the time, City Hall asserted that the measures were aimed at averting collapses and fatalities.

The adverse weather halted all deep excavation activities to prevent further loss and ensure public safety.

With the recent cessation of the heavy rains, County Chief Officer for Urban Development and Planning Patrick Analo has announced that developers are now permitted to resume their projects.

However, this comes with strict safety conditions aimed at preventing future incidents.

“Developers are urged to exercise the utmost caution to ensure the safety of all neighboring structures.”

He emphasized that only projects with the necessary approvals can continue their deep excavation work.

Further, the devolved unit has also mandated that project architects, civil engineers, and private developers collaborate with government bodies responsible for site inspections.

Likewise, all construction projects involving deep excavations must submit geotechnical engineering reports for approval before resuming work.

He warned that non-compliance with these requirements would result in the immediate cessation of activities.
