Kibwezi member of parliament Mwengi Mutuse clashed with mourners during a burial ceremony in Makueni County. The Member of Parliament has been facing criticism for his recent support of the 2024 Finance Bill.

The leaders were attending the burial of Magdalene Kalembe, the late wife of former Member of Parliament Kalembe Ndile, when the violence erupted. Magdalene Kalembe passed away a few days prior.

Mwengi Mutuse clashed with several local elected leaders during the ceremony, leading to a violent disruption. Several people were injured, and significant property damage occurred.

Police officers were forced to intervene, separating the leaders and rushing Mwengi Mutuse to safety. He accused his political opponents of hiring goons to attack him during the incident.

Mwengi Mutuse has clashed with several leaders in Makueni County due to his support for President William Ruto. After the 2022 general elections, he switched his allegiance from Kalonzo Musyoka to Ruto and has since become a close ally of the President.

Mutuse is currently serving his second term as the Member of Parliament for Kibwezi West constituency, where he enjoys a large following. Over the past few years, he has implemented several development projects in the region.

The Member of Parliament has refused to apologize for voting in support of the Finance Bill. He believes that the government needs to raise more revenue due to the country's debt crisis.
