The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is looking for people caught on CCTV surveillance breaking into shops in the CBD and looting during the anti-finance bill protests.

In a statement published on Monday, the DCI announced that its Imaging and Acoustic Unit, located at the National Forensic Laboratory, had acquired multiple CCTV footage in which several persons were captured performing felonious activities while claiming to be peaceful protesters.

"Whereas some have already been arrested and arraigned in various courts today, more are still out there on the streets waiting for other opportune times to strike again," the DCI said, urging members of the public to help in identifying suspects caught on CCTV.

"We can flush them from amongst our numbers because they do not share the principles that define what we stand for, and more so for the sake of those who did not deserve to lose their only means of livelihood in this manner."

Several businesses were looted during the protests, with President Ruto claiming on Sunday that intelligence reports revealed heavy mobilization of goons who raided parliament, with some targeting the armory and the mausoleum.

Several businesses were plundered during the riots, with President Ruto saying on Sunday that intelligence assessments indicated a large number of thugs raiding parliament, with some targeting the armory and the mausoleum.

The originally peaceful demonstrations were prompted last week by the 2024 financial measure, which lawmakers passed Tuesday afternoon. The measure caught Ruto's administration off guard as marches gathered steam around the nation.

However, the Gen-Z-led protests became violent on Tuesday when police fired live bullets into the crowd outside parliament, leading the building to be plundered and partially destroyed.
