Social media influencer Francis Gaitho announced that he will present himself to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters at Mazingira House. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Gaitho said he will arrive at 2 PM.

"I will be presenting myself at DCI Headquarters, Mazingira House Kiambu Road at 2 PM today. Thank you all for your concern," he wrote.

This announcement follows a mix-up by the police, who mistakenly arrested veteran journalist Macharia Gaitho earlier in the day, thinking he was Francis Gaitho.

"The National Police Service would like to clarify to the public that this morning, we arrested journalist Macharia Gaitho in a case of mistaken identity. The intended subject of our investigation is Francis Gaitho," the police stated.

In response, Francis Gaitho said he is consulting with his legal counsel on how to proceed.

The confusion arose after Director of Criminal Investigations Amin Mohamed criticized Francis Gaitho on Monday for allegedly discrediting the DCI’s investigation into the Kware dump site murders. Gaitho had accused the DCI of issuing a misleading statement and misidentifying the prime suspect. He later shared names, images, and descriptions of a person named Jairus Onkundi, claiming Onkundi was the suspect. Onkundi subsequently filed a complaint with the DCI to clear his name in the ongoing investigations.
