Veteran journalist Macharia Gaitho has been released after being mistakenly arrested. Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin clarified that Gaitho's arrest was due to mistaken identity. Gaitho was taken into custody on Wednesday morning at Karen Police Station.

"We apologize to Mr. Gaitho. It was a case of mistaken identity," said Amin, explaining that they were actually searching for another individual named Gaitho.

The National Police Service (NPS) described the forceful arrest of the veteran journalist as "highly regrettable."
