The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has begun investigations into the theft of public funds, conflict of interest, and procurement fraud of Kes 373 million in purchasing heavy road construction equipment and truck allegations in Bomet County.

According to the Commission, the investigation targets county officials and private entities allegedly conspiring to weave and execute fraudulent transactions.

EACC South Rift Regional Manager Ignatius Wekesa has written to the county secretary requesting various financial and procurement documents and information to facilitate the investigation.

“Kindly provide us with the following original documents: approved budget for FY 2022/2023 & 2023/2024; approved procurement plan for FY 2022/2023 and 2023/2024; procurement requisition; approved memo-seeking approval advertisement,” read part of the letter dated July 30.

Additionally, EACC wants an advertisement notice, a standard tender document, original tender documents submitted by bidders, appointment letters for the tender opening or evaluation committee, and the tender opening register, among other things.

Our officers M. Kemei, M. Njiru and A. Abdi or any other authorized Commission officer will be available to collect the documents.”

Through its Spokesperson, Eric Ngumbi, EACC said persons found guilty will be prosecuted, and any public funds lost in the scandal will be recovered.
