Police officers in Kakamega  County are investigating an incident in which the body of a middle-aged man was discovered decomposing at his home.

Vitalis Mulunga, a neighbor familiar with the case, said the assistant chief notified them of the body's discovery and immediately sought help from police officers from Shikoti.

Neighbors reported a stench coming from the house and, upon closer inspection, discovered Fredrick Imbugwa's body in bed.

The officers arrived at the scene and removed the body to a facility in Kakamega as investigations began.

Further, Mr. Imbugwa's family revealed that they believe he committed suicide after claiming to have lost money to the woman he was living with.

"Tulipouliza familia, walisema kuwa marehemu alikuwa ameuza shamba, lakini alikuwa amepigia dada yake simu akisema ati atajitoa uhai sababu ule mwanmke anaishi na yeye amemuibia pesa," Mulunga said.

Confirming the incident, Eshibikhwa area assistant chief Emmanuel Shikanda revealed that the deceased died weeks after he allegedly sold a plot of land.

He later claimed to have lost the money to his estranged lover in a phone call with his sister, where he also threatened to end his life.

The family now awaits the outcome of a postmortem to uncover the truth behind their kin's death.
