Residents of Uaso Narok Scheme in Nyahururu Sub County are protesting against government plans to evict them, citing their legitimate ownership of the land.
The eviction is reportedly intended to facilitate the construction of an electric fence to protect the area from elephants straying from South Marmanet Forest.
The residents, led by John Barno and Stephen Lugwist, assert that they legally acquired the land and possess title deeds issued by the government after being resettled over two decades ago following their eviction from South Marmanet Forest.

They strongly oppose the eviction and any community project within the scheme that excludes their involvement.
Igwamiti Ward MCA Irene Wachuka supported the residents, stating that the government should first lift a caveat placed by influential individuals, which has hindered meaningful development in the area.
The residents are determined to stay on their land and defend their rights.
